In its more than 60 years’ history as a supplier of fittings for overhead transmission lines, Mosdorfer could implement some renowned projects with an innovative character on an international scale.
As for crossings, we are proud that we can mention that we did the following for the 400 kV connection in Istanbul/Turkey across the straits of the Bosporus: After conceiving and type testing the insulator strings and OPGW supporting and suspension points, it delivered them to a contractor of international renown.
The big challenges were formed by the breaking loads > 1000 kN for the suspension fittings as well as by the extreme breaking loads of the phase conductor used and the optical ground wire.
For military use, special high-frequency tension strings, which can withstand breaking loads of 2300 kN, have been developed for suspending antenna masts.
In countries with large surfaces and long line lengths, utmost care is paid to minimizing the energy losses of the overhead transmission line.
Together with partners, a novel string has been developed for a pilot project in South America. Due to the special arrangement of the phases one to another and special shaping of the conductor bundles, this string will reduce the line losses.
Mosdorfer counteracts the problems with having new lines approved by means of specially coloured fittings, which are better adapted to the landscape.
An agreeable by-effect of coating is increase in the life cycle because zinc coating of steel fittings will erode less.
For line sections where there are more birds, existing spacers have been provided with additional warning areas that are to avoid collision of the birds with the conductors.
In areas with temperatures that are particularly low in the winter months, it is important to ensure that the material used is sufficiently tenacious at temperatures of minus 40°C.
In winter, in particular, string fittings and cable fittings are loaded most because there will be additional loads, such as hoar or ice. It is especially highly dynamic ice dropping that will lead to dynamic impact peaks in the strings and can lead to complete ruptures of strings if the material quality is insufficient.
For these applications, Mosdorfer uses special input stock that will be given the final touch in the in-house thermal treatment installation. The production process will be rounded off by making a notched bar test acc. to Charpy in the in-house laboratory.
In order to make it even safer to operate lines near coasts, a vibration damper, which can face the aggressive salts of the sea air, has been developed.
This product series carries the brand name POLRES.
In a direct comparison with a standard damper, a POLRES Damper can, under these aggravated conditions, fulfil its task as a fitting providing vibration protection 300 % longer and can thus protect the conductor from damage due to vibrations.
